About

My name is Rachel Sharples, and I’m the staff photographer for the Conway Daily Sun and a recent graduate of Boston University. Although I’ve always loved photography, studying the art of photojournalism at BU grew my desire to learn more of the craft and my passion for telling stories, both in visuals and text. Through field experience, classroom assignments, and simple trial and error, I’ve worked to cover stories of all shapes and sizes, from small town events to larger trends from localized angles.

Most of my field experience has come through my role as a photographer at the independent student newspaper at BU, the Daily Free Press, since the beginning of my freshman year, and my work as a freelance reporter for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. Both of these positions allowed me to learn in the field, covering all sorts of topics ranging from breaking news to sports to campus features, as well as behind-the-scenes in the newsroom, editing photos and coordinating coverage of events and subjects with other photographers. I’ve also spent time interning at the Somerville Times and the Cambridge Chronicle, where I’ve gotten more experience covering local communities through an in-depth lens.

I carry my camera with me just about everywhere I go, taking pictures on assignment, for class, and for personal enjoyment. I’m a quick and avid learner, so I’m eager to continue growing and working in the field of photojournalism in my role at the Conway Daily Sun.
